USUAL SUSPECTS LEAD THE WAY

Veteran NSL'ers SAS Strikers, Happy Strikers, UnbeWiiVables and Center on the Hill all rolled big scores and seem poised to replace defending NSL Champions as the Cedar Crest Crushers chose not to compete in the fall league.

The new kid on the block may be the Sunshine Strikers 1 team led by coach Clara White's 279/256. The Strikers 1 and 2 teams hail from St. Petersburg, FL and both may challenge the leaders for the NSL crown. Another new team showing championship caliber play is the Hiawassee Hotshots, Hiawassee, Ga., coached by Brenda Brannock. The Hotshots were led in first week play by Murlene Bradley's 245/248. Another team to watch is the Wii Warriors from Walnut Village whose roster is made up of veteran NSL Wii Bowlers.

Week 1 NSL Shoutout to coach Tom Gray, Sierre Point Stryke Force, who put together 16 west coast teams representing Vintage Senior Communities. Tom's Stryke Force team is led by Wii Bowlers Flo Eng (205/213) and Jack Lewis (216/203). And a special NSL Welcome to the Kensington Knockouts, one of Tom's teams representing Vintage. It's their first try at Wii Bowling and first try in the NSL.

Four new members joined the NSL 300 Club. First timers include Rick Swaney, Center on the Hill, Susan Cheung, UnbeWiiVables, Joe Marshall, Terminators, and Vistal Thomas, Golden Spurs. They joined past members still on a roll, Warner Wisyanski, Margaret Kinnard, Bob Brigham, Joe Riccobene, Evelyn Kelly, Hazel Sellers and Tim Christensen.

PARC AT DULUTH DEFENDS Wii GOLF TITLE

Parc at Duluth successfully defended their NSL National Wii Golf Title by defeating the GRRRBirdies shooting an impressive 25 under par in the final match. Parc's super Wii golf team was led by 'Tiger Woods' type players - "Lucky" Harry Sanger, "Sweet Will" Taylor, "Dixie Dolly" Fyffe, and the ever steady Bob Clawson. The Heidi Adams coached Parc team carded a total of 177 under par for 5 rounds of Wii golf.

The GRRR Birdies, coached by Dona Duncan, improved each week and had their best score of the tournament against the birdie shooting Parc team. In the end, their strong effort wasn't enough to upset the Parc team. Finishing a strong second the GRRRBirdies are set for a strong effort in 2012.

Frederick Manor, coached by Julie Navarro, finished third and Sheila Englert's, Village Eagles team finished 4th. Julie's team, a Front Porch Community, Wii golf's out of Chula Vista, CA and Shiela's team competes out of Rochester, NY playing for The Villages at Unity.

Harry Sanger and Bill Taylor both of Parc Duluth went head to head for the individual title with Sanger defending his National title defeating Taylor by 1 shot. Sanger was 41 under par, an NSL record. Dolly Fyffe, Parc's women's leading player finished 4th at 33 under.

After a shaking opening round, John Bates rebounded to finish 3rd in the individual competition at 34 under. Bob Bates, son of John, finished 6th. The Bates boys hail from Onalaska, WI.

Ruper Brooke, Fredericka Golfers, was steady throughout posting 30 under par - good for 5th place in the individual competition. Bob Clawson (Parc), Dave Flathers (GRRR), Katie Heise (Fredericka), and Bill Joyce (Village Eagles) rounded out the top 10 finishers in the individual competition.

PLAYOFF WEEK IN NSL Wii GOLF

Following 4 weeks of NSL Wii Golf competition 4 teams advance to the final. Play changes from stroke competition to head to head challenge competition with the defending champions, The Winners from Parc Duluth, seeded number 1 and pitted against The Village Eagles, The Villages at Unity. In the second match, one that figures to be quite close, the GRRRBirdies representing Grande Ronde Retirement Residences, La Grande, OR, match up against The Fredericka Golfers from Rochester, NY In the qualifying rounds the GRRR Birdies rallied late to jump into second place but now must win to advance to the final match.

First round matches must be completed by Tuesday night, July 26 and the championship match must be completed by Thurday night, July 28.

The individual competition is getting a little tighter as Bill Taylor is challenging Harry Sanger for the title. Both play for The Winners. John Bates continues to move up but may have to go real low to challenge either Bill or Harry for the title. Dolly Fyffe, The Winners leading lady, faltered a bit in round 4 but remains a threat.

The top 12 individual golfers play one more 9 hole round with scores from all 5 rounds counting towards the placement of the top 10 Wii Golfers in the U.S. Those making the final 12 in order of finish - Harry Sanger (-33), Bill Taylor (-31), Dolly Fyffe (-26), John Bates (-25), Ruper Brooke (-24), Bob Bates (-22), Bob Clawson (-17), Dave Flathers (-14), Neil Campo (-6), Katie Heise (+2), Bill Joyce (+ 7) and Norma Weber (+8).

NSL Wii GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE BATTLE IS REALLY FOR SECOND PLACE

The Winners from Parc Duluth, Duluth, Ga., all but sewed up their second straight NSL Wii Golf Championships by posting another sizzling round of sub par golf. The Winners jumped to 71 under par after 3 weeks of play. With only 1 week left in the 4 week schedule they are destined for the first seed in the playoffs and will match up against the Village Eagles, The Villages at Unity, Rochester, NY, in the playoff round.

A Wii golf shootout looms between the Fredericka Manor and GRRRBirdies. Only 3 strokes separate the two teams to see who will finish second in conference play before heading into the one round playoff match. After next weeks final round before the playoffs it is quite assured that the same two teams will match up and play for the NSL runner spot.

In individual play Harry Sanger maintains a 5 shot lead over golfmates Dolly Fyffe and Bill Taylor. All play for The Winners. It should be an intersting week at the Park Duluth Community. John Bates continued his upward climb with a round of 27 and has an outside chance to end up in the number 2 position. In order for that to happen John will have to really have to "golf his ball" next week.

It should also be quite interesting in the Bates household next week as father John leads son Bob by 2 strokes going into the final 9 holes. Fortunately, or unfortunately as the case may be, they will be playing under the same roof matching shot for shot to see who can win the BATES match-up.

In other news, Neil Campo, GRRRBirdies worked his way into the top 10 carding a 2 under par 34 for a 107 total.

The fourth week is the final week of play before the playoffs. Matches will be posted on the NSL website setting up playoff week.

THE WINNERS CONTINUE Wii GOLF UNSLAUGHT

The Winners of Parc Duluth, Duluth, Ga. continued to bust par in the 2nd annual NSL Wii Golf National Championship. Their 24 under par matched last weeks results giving them an almost insurmountable 37 stroke lead going into the third round of the 5 round tournament. Fredericka Manor is in second place followed by the GRRRBirdies and the Village Eagles.

In the individual competition Harry Sanger, The Winners, continued is birdie barrage with a second round score of 26 to go with his first round 27. Harry is -19 but only has a 4 shot lead over Wii golfmate Dolly Fyffe (-15) who carded a second round 29 and and a 5 shot lead over Wii golfmate Bill Taylor at -14.

A NSL shoutout to Norma Weber, GRRRBirdies, who improved 7 strokes in the second round scoring an impressive 2 under 34 including a chip-in eagle. Way to go Norma!

The father/son Bates team of son Bob and father John remained in the hunt for individual honors as both carded 29's. Betty Joyce, Village Eagles, jumped into the top 10 of the individual competition by shooting a 2 under 34 to get back to even par.

DEFENDING CHAMPS TAKE BIG LEAD IN NSL 2011 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

The Winners, Parc at Duluth (Duluth, GA), shot an incredible 24 under par in the first round of the NSL Senior National Wii Golf Championships to lead by 19 shots over second place Fredericka Golfers, Fredericka Manor (Chula Vista, CA). The GRRRBirdies, Grande Ronde Retirement Residences (La Grande, OR) lead the Village Eagles, The Villages at Unity (Rochester, NY) by 1 shot for 3rd place.

Harry Sanger led The Winners with a 9 under 27 followed closely by Wii golfmates Dolly Fyffe (28) and Bill Taylor (29). The trio also lead the individual competition but have plenty of competition as 9 Wii golfers broke par.

The Winners are the defending NSL National Wii Golf Champions and proved too strong for the competition in the first round of play. Four players compete on each team with the top 3 scores counting in team play. The NSL Championship features 4 rounds of competition followed by one week of playoffs. The playoffs take place the week of July 25th.

In the individual competition John and Bob Bates, father/son, went head to head with John (shooting a 35) double bogeying the last hole to fall three strokes behind son, Bob (shooting a 32). Both remain in the hunt for individual honors.

Dennis Berkholtz, NSL Founder and Tournament Director, commented on The Winners continued success - "they have to be practicing every day to be that good. Their 4th score posted by Bob Clausen was 5 under and it didn't even count!"

NSL Title Goes to Crushers

The Crushers, Cedar Crest Village, Pompton Plains, NJ, wii rolled past Morigi 1, Center on the Hill, Belle Vernon, PA, in the finals of the National Senior League's (NSL) 2011 Spring Wii Bowling Championships. The Crushers posted scores of 1,057 and 991 defeating Morigi by 179 pins.

The well balanced Crusher's team of Lily Berenbroick, 92 year old Peter Galioto, Bill Sperry, Sydelle Hirsch and coach Tony di Filippo maintained their composure and focus under the scrutiny of television camera's, photo shoots and close to 100 spectators cheering them on. Sperry (in photo) continued his exceptional year by wii bowling his 10th NSL sanctioned 300 game and adding a 290 to claim MVP honors.

Pat Bennico, Center on the Hill's director and team cheerleader, couldn't quite get Rick Swaney, Warner Wisyanski, Coach Pat Morigi, and Bill Artis to take the title. High scoring teammate, Lil Kepsel with a 286 season average, missed the championship match which hurt Center's chances. Coach Morigi's team was in its second championship game having been runner-up in the NSL 2010 Fall championship.

The champion Crushers bested 144 teams from 24 states to win the title. The final four teams, all of which receive a free pass, to the NSL 2011 Fall Championship, included The Crushers, Morigi 1, 3 time national champion the SAS Strikers, St Andrews Estates South, Boca Raton, FL and The Alley Katz, led by coach, Bernie Katz, from the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, Santa Clarita, CA.

As the National Senior League rolls into its final week of league play several conference titles remain up for grabs. The big battle will be in conference 34 where NSL power houses Morigi Team 1 and the Terminators go head to head with the winner grabbing the conference title. In conference 32 the winner of the matchup between the Happy Strikers and WiiTired will capture the trophy and in conference 28 CRV Team 1 must defeat a strong Sunrise Wii Bees team to win the title.

Just as important are third place matchups in several conferences as the top 3 teams advance to the playoffs determining the NSL National Champion. Not yet determined are 3rd place finishes in conferences 17, 18, 23, 25, 29, 31 and 33. A head to head match in conference 17, The Crawlers vs Cromwell 1, will determine the third position. Other teams hoping to secure a trip to the championship matches include Incredibles 1 and the Terminators in conference 18; Banks Bowlers, Westside Bowlers, Four Stooges and the Bellringers in conference 23; the Jolly Bowlers and Pins Gone in conference 25; the Slow Rollers and the Dynamite Metheunites in conference 29; Manor House 2, Gwynedd Pin Busters and the Bowling Stones in conference 31; and CRV 3 and the Blasters in conference 33.

For the first time since its inception NSL playoffs will include all the teams competing in the league. The NSL National Champion will come from one of the top 64 teams in the league.
